How to i get music to work on my computer?

This is actually my grandma's computer but she has no sound for the speakers so i put in my headphones for a ipod/mp3 then it worked but wen i pluged it out (i thought at the time the speakers work) no sound, pluged it bak in but i get sound but no music to youtube. should i just re-start the computer or something? any suggestions
