Why do people think that intelligence = math skills and logic?

That is not true. However, both math and logic force you to think sequentially and allow you to put pieces together. Intelligence requires that you access random data and put them together in a structure that makes sense. Mathematics is a discipline which is based on this construct. Hence intelligent people are sometimes thought be logical.
